I'm wondering if any of you have experience optimizing webmail performance for users with large mailboxes. Many of my users have mailboxes that exceed 2GB

5 minutes to get from the login page to the Main Menu. Other services, IMAP, SMTP, etc, seem to be running fine...
nope, they will all hurt in accessing 2 GB .mbx files, esp if on fragmented partitions.
CPU and memory utilization look good.
I'm running 7.14 now, and I have 8.0 waiting in the wings. Is there anything I can do to improve performance for my endusers?
limit mailbox size to sane limit.
if you can't, then
Charge more for "mail archiving" (includes backup and restore when disk fails) rather than mailbox store/forward access.
take the $$$ buy a $600 SCSI controller 64-bit PCI, 66 MHz PCI bus with 256 MBytes cache, and SCSI 160 MB/sec disks dedicated 1) mailbox directory and 2) webmail work directory. this of course requires a matching mobo. You'll be out several $K beefing up your system. 2.6 GHz CPU wouldn't hurt
and the usual admin of continuous cleaning and defragging of the imail spool partitions, and the mbx partitions.
