How can I tell when imail is unable to contact the DNS server? And why would this be true if I can ping the DNS server and consistently use it with NSLOOKUP in a DOS window?
Not being able to contact a DNS server is not an issue.
The *only* time that IMail should use an A record for sending E-mail is if it has already queried for the MX record, and has been told that the MX record does not exist.
If there is a DNS timeout or any other issue when looking up the MX record, IMail should re-queue the E-mail and try it later.
Older versions of IMail (pre-7.04, it seems) would incorrectly use the A record in certain situations (I believe it would be if the MX records were tried, but could not be reached).
