A bit off-topic perhaps, but pressure from above is forcing me to evaluate other email servers against IMail and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions or could point me in the right direction for the best (or proper) way to stress-test these alternatives. I'm most interested in SMTP & IMAP performance, not so much with POP3 or webmail. I'd also be curious to see how IMail stacks up against some of its competition.
The only other mail server I have experience with is Novell's NetMail (hosted on NetWare).
iMail advantages: * better logging * More choices for "in the same box" anti-spam and anti-virus * slightly stronger native anti-spam tools
Netmail advantages
* MUCH better performance, epecially for IMAP
* If you already have a NetWare network (or eDirectory on Windows or Linux), it uses the same management tools
* Supports distributed systems (SMTP on one box, IMAP on another, Webmail on a third)
* Runs on a wider variety of platforms -- NetWare, Windows, *nix.
NetMail had anti-virus and anti-spam on the server, though your anti-virus choices are limited to McAfee, Symantec Carrier Scan, and CA Innoculate (I think there may be one more, now). NetMail has native RBL support, and can block based on incoming email address, ut doesn't have word filters like iMail. There is a thrid-party vendor working on a declude-like program for NetMail.
