Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] WAY OT: Snap Servers

I find it more reliable and less expensive to build a headless
server with RAID controller and off-the-shelf drives. We have had
drives fail at inopportune times and I can get a replacement drive
no time (usually in town if necessary). We also use a 5 drive
scheme so that the system keeps working while we locate a drive.

This way I'm in a familiar environment that I can control. ;)

P.S. We have also found it useful to use a 2 channel RAID
controller and create separate RAID channels of half the size
instead of one large drive because we can use less expensive
drives. For example, using (10) 18Gb drives to create two 68Gb
RAID drives is less expensive than using (5) 36GB drive to create
one 136GB RAID drive.
