I had the same problem with one user account a few weeks ago. I tried renaming his folder, creating a new folder and copying his messages back. The problem started again. Each time he refreshed in webmail it would report an exponentially increasing directory size. Ultimately, I renamed that folder, created an account so he could access it and created a new folder for his "real" account. The problem did not reoccur and I came to the conclusion that one of the messages is his "original" folder was corrupted.
