This isn't necessarily an iMail issue, but I hope someone can help me with
it. I've looked in the KB, the Archive and didn't find anything that
related. And I read a lot of what I found on Google, but I still don't
really understand. :((

We have one client that has a problem sending mail to another mail server,
which is apparently an Exchange server, and the other mail server admin
maintains this is our problem. Which it certainly may be. The error
message that is created when the client sends his message is -

allows software like LISTSERV to automatically take action on incorrect
addresses; you can safely ignore the numeric codes.

The mail server admin for iocenter.net says we are not compliant with RFC
1426 MIME handling http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1426.html. Additionally he
says...."Essentially, your SMTP server is attempting to
send data in 8-bit mode to our server. Our server is requesting the data
in 7-bit mode. Upon that request your server should convert the data to
7-bit mode and resend, but your server is still sending in 8-bit mode.
You need to research MIME 8- to 7-bit conversion with your SMTP server.
There should be a flag/switch that you can configure."

I've looked all over and haven't found anywhere to configure 7bit as an
option. The only 2 error message examples I have are from delivery attempts
by gateway servers (originally LSMTP from LSoft and then with MS SMTP).
iMail is currently set to deliver remote mail through the gateway after 2
attempts. But the logs from iMail (attached) show essentially the same
error. We handle tons of mail and this is the only case of this issue as
far as we know, and I haven't found a configuration options for 7bit mime in
iMail or any of the other mail servers. Is the other mail server supposed
to announce "7bit mime" but isn't? Or is this RFC actually out of date, or
not really generally accepted?

I apologize for the long post. But hope someone can help.

TIA,

David
