You seem to say both that they aren't going too far, and that they are. Are you saying that they shouldn't admit blocking "legit" mail
They block or pass what they block or pass, our opinion or their admission doesn't matter. If you don't like it blocking 8-bit, then turn it off, or stop sending it.

right, "legit" mgs that violate RFC __in exactly the same way spam violates RFC intentionally__ can be called illegit msgs meriting rejection.
A policy of letting all "legit" mail and mail servers send us screwed up mail, have screwed up DNS and screwed up SMTP settings is itself a screwed up policy. Such a policy is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
If that is the case, isn't iMail sending the message correctly? I don't claim to understand, still. :(( But doesn't iMail handle this correctly?
Imail doesn't originate the mail, the MUA does. Imail has no opinion on the message content, unless you set IMail policies to get involved.
