Don't get so defensive, I was not questioning your knowledge on DNS. Perhaps your assumption that I do not know about DNS is of concern though. I know quite a bit about DNS and I have been building running ISPs for over 10 years. I also work with other ISPs and network engineers across the globe. I am well versed on DNS and I don't need a tutorial or any other info on it. My question was not about DNS it was about how to disable a domain in IMail (I am far from an expert on IMail). I know very well that I could have used DNS to try to accomplish part of the goal, however, that was not my question or my intent.
Then don't continue to respond with comments that others are going to respond to. :)
Note that I never suggested using DNS for this purpose -- I just responded when *you* refused someone else's suggestion, for a reason that needed to be clarified (so that others on the list wouldn't get confused or possibly become misinformed).
If you re-read my post, my concern isn't about your knowledge of DNS (I try to err on assuming minimal knowledge to help ensure that people understand my posts). It's your misleading information ("I did not want to use DNS because of propagation time", which is can be a completely accurate post in your case, but implies that others could encounter similar problems), and your information that you can't back up (guesses posed as facts, such as "Not just some, but many providers override it").
My goal isn't to say you are wrong (you clearly know a lot about DNS, and I know I'm not perfect); it's to help clarify for those that may be reading this and make assumptions that will hurt them later.
BIND is not a commercial solution ...
Sorry, my mistake. By "commercial solution" I was referring to software that was designed to be used by the general public (as opposed to custom programs written in-house).
