As an example, here I am at home trying to catch up on this thread about poor performance with Web messaging. My server has a low volume, so MY poor performance has more to do with a large (15M, 70M) mailbox file and my disk system.
Are you running an on-access virus scanner on that mailserver? If so, that is one of the most common cause for slowness on a mailserver.
