Bottom line is no it shouldn't matter...When a mail client is set to do SMTP
Auth in needs to see the capability of it on the server. This capability
comes back as part of the response to the EHLO command...

220 mail.shanbrom.net (IMail 8.11 232-1) NT-ESMTP Server X1
ehlo eric.shanbrom.net
250-mail.shanbrom.net says hello
250-SIZE 0
250-8BITMIME
250-DSN
250-ETRN
250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5
250-AUTH=LOGIN
250 EXPN

IF you check the "disable SMTP Auth reporting in your SMTP Advanced tab you
will tell the clients connecting to you that you do not support SMTP Auth
and they will not try to do it..Notice the 2 AUTH lines missing from the
capabilities return

220 mail.shanbrom.net (IMail 8.11 232-1) NT-ESMTP Server X1
ehlo eric.shanbrom.net
250-mail.shanbrom.net says hello
250-SIZE 0
250-8BITMIME
250-DSN
250-ETRN
250 EXPN

Therefore if Cox is supporting it it shouldn't make a difference. If they
don't then the client won't even try

Hope this helps
