Hi;

I have done a lot of work on this with AOL and have spent several hours with
the postmaster for AOL.

1: http://postmaster.info.aol.com/tools/fbl.html

What AOL does is simply look at the volume of your email versus how many is
reported as SPAM. Also - AOL is not all that savvy in fighting spam. We
had a newsletter blocked from delivery since it had a space in the URL which
was naturally decoded. Instead of having a weight for each item the email
was totally blocked.

I spent 1/2 hour with the postmaster and finally after we deleted the URL
the email went through. It is that bad!..

In general also people that use AOL (for the most part) are not that
technically savvy. I had one person that was reporting our receipts as spam
because he thought .. What is the difference between that and trash.. So
make sure your emails are carefully worded and are clean.

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Kami

I checked about a dozen emails in the list against those in their orders
table in their database and that all matched. These guys do $70K in business
a month according to their shopping cart so I believe the list to be valid.

My understanding was that if you sent a ton of email into say AOL that they
would catch that and block them?

Bill

If it was inappropriate an inappropriate question, I think that you would
have heard more than silence...

I would think that to avoid getting blacklisted, then you have to make sure
this isn't spam, as the volume itself shouldn't cause any problems if it is
going to legit subscribers/customers. 150K is a big list though. Are they a
large enough site so that it makes sense that they could generate a list
that big? Do you see any mention of them or previous incarnations of their
companies in any of the spam blacklists?

Have you previewed the message that they are going to send out?
