I was actually hoping to use Microsoft's SMTP server to send out the email
since it looks like we can throttle the emails with it. Does anyone know how
to do that?

Bill

I don't think the question was inappropriate, I was just in awe........

150k Users is a lot of users. I'm willing to bet no one made an effort to
make sure those addresses are still valid so do everything you can to cover
yourself. At the very least make sure you have an abuse address configured
and make sure both you and the sender of the list get copies of those
requests.

Make sure you have a powerful server and/or SMTP gateway. I know when we
load tested IMail on a Duel 2.5 with 2GIG of RAM, we threw 20k messages at
it in one big bulk and it brought the server to it's knees because IMail
does not use the ram, it uses the paging file ...... why I have no idea,
I've even called IPSwitch support and complained about it but they said it
was developed that way.

Good luck with it, I know me personally I'd just tell them no until they
could give me some type of record indicating the addresses were valid.

We're about to have a client that has a mailing list with 150K users on it.
I've checked their database and these appear to all be previous customers of
theirs. The concern I have is will we run the risk of getting blacklisted
sending out their newsletter and how could we avoid that?

Thanks in advance,

Bill
