I ran SAVSMTP/SMSSMTP with Imail for several years. A couple of notes:
1. If SMSSMTP is your "external face" to the internet, the anti-dictionary attack feature of 8.2 will need to be turned off, as will DNSRBL. This is because "connecting IP" from Imails perspective will be the SMSSMTP box. 2. The last version of SMSMTP I used (4.0?) did not have any tarpitting/SMTP hang up functionality on repeated bad addresses. Dictionary attacks killed us. Maybe Symantec has added this in a newer version. 3. The Worm clean-up feature is very nice during outbreaks. 4. SMSSMTP DNSRBL spam control is very flexible and worked well.
