Napster is still up and running; plus there are dozens of spin-offs - so, if
they ever do close Napster down, they will not be able to stop this type of
peer-peer file transfers...

You are absolutely correct - Dial Up Connections are slow and tedious with a
high failure rate; but, for someone looking for a rare song - I guess it's
worth it. My Mom uses Napster on DSL - she is downloading all the songs she
had growing up; and, having a blast doing it. She has actually owned the
vast majority of the songs that she downloads, so she doesn't feel bad about
it - she is simply creating "backups" of songs she has purchased in the
past... I have Napster at home; but, I also have 56K modem - so, I almost
never even try anymore from home... Where my Mom gets a song in under five
minutes, it usually takes me over 20-30; and, often the connection gets
broke leaving me with only a partial song...

As far as control: You can configure Napster to search for all mp3's on
your computer - or you can tell it specifically which folders you wish to
share. I have double-checked; and, it seems to only share what it has
permission to share (which was my personal concern). I still realize that
if the wrong person really wanted to; that they could probably over-ride
things and get into other folders/directories; but, I am only one of
billions of computers on the 'Net; and, that same person could do the same
with/without Napster - especially with users like my Mom and others who have
Static IP addresses due to DSL, Cable, T1, etc...

Hope this helps!

~Lisa

other computers and download their .mp3 files from their hard drive, then
can they also connect to your computer using Napster?

slow enough as it is. Besides, there are many mp3 search engines online,
and I'm not that much of a music fan.
