The significance is that iMS asks the OS to use that specified IP address.  However, 
the OS can override the request.  For example - say you have a server with two NICs.  
One is using an internal subnet and the other is connected to the internet.  You send 
mail to a server on the net and request that the OS use IP 10.1.1.5 as the sending IP. 
 The OS would override that and use an IP on the other NIC.

I know this is an extreme example but it illustrates that iMS is requesting an IP.  

BTW - the only way to see if the IP you want is actually being requested is to look in 
the log file.

There is no way to guarantee the IP that the OS selects, if that's what you mean.
