Dan Brown's books are built up in layers with historic and scientific "facts" forming a base layer. Above this are several layers of inference and story telling which weave a thoroughly good thriller. However, it is the underlying assumptions and inferences which grab peoples imagination more than the story. Stephen its time you read these books! They don't cost very much and they take very little time to read for the simple reason that you can't put them down. When I offered to lend one to a friend he declined saying that his wife had already bought it for him but he wasn't allowed to have it until the school holidays.
