I think the sexuality debate keeps on going because we refuse to acknowledge the real
underlying issue - how do we understand the will of God? In particular, what role does
the bible play in understanding the will of God?

I have certainly arrived at my own point of view (briefly, the sexual orientation of a
person is irrelevant in deciding the eligibility of a person for leadership or
ordained ministry) after a long period of seeking to understand the will of God. I
believe my point of view is consistent with the bible.

Of course, those who completely disagree with my point of view on this issue have ALSO
spent a long time trying to understand the will of God and think THEIR point of view
is consistent with the bible.

Where does the discrepancy lie? I think it lies in what we mean by "consistent with
the bible" or more broadly, how do we use the bible when trying to understand the will
of God? Until we honestly address this question, I think the sexuality debate is going
nowhere.

Cheers,

Jonathan
