           How about your /etc/sysconfig/network? Does it look something like

   NETWORKING=yes
   FORWARD_IPV4=false
   HOSTNAME=<yourhostnamehere>

   The only other idea I have is a vague memory that I had problems if I
   tried using the RedHat network installation. When I installed RedHat
   the last (working) time, I skipped the network installation
   completely. I think this might affect things if the boot scripts try
   to initialize the networking before the PCMCIA ...

Hi Steve,

yes, the /etc/sysconfig/network seems ok. I have read somewhere that
other people reported this problem though.

thanks again
