Well, first it depends on what kind of BIOS you have. If you have
Phoenix Bios (and my experiences only come from phoenix) then you
could use a disk called Crysis Recovery Disk to recover the BIOS
incase of a failed flash.

Also you could boot into Ubuntu 10.04 (works with 9.10 as well) if you
have a failed vbios flash attempt as well because Ubuntu uses
something that can "remake" your vbios on boot if it's broken.

And to modify a phoenix BIOS you could use the tool "Phoenix Bios
Editor" which isn't free, but copies exist on the internet in places.
This tool allows you to take the old video rom from your phoenix bios,
and import a newer one. You could do many other things as well such as
enable hidden options, enable the recovery option if it's disabled
(some OEM's disable recovery features, making the crysis recovery disk
useless on a failed flash), and etc.

Most of the above applies to phoenix bios only though. I know american
megatrends has an editor as well though. So does award bios.
