Knowing that there was 'an error' isn't enough.
As I said, we cannot tell what the cause is without knowing the output
of
tail /var/log/messages
after the modprobe ipmi_si.

In my execution environment following works fine:
modprobe ipmi_msghandler
modprobe ipmi_devintf
where as when i do
modprobe ipmi_si
i get an error related to system interface.
Do you suggest me to use 'modprobe ipmi_si' command with parameters. If
yes, then please provide
mandatory parameter that i should provide to load module ipmi_si.

Well that's your problem, if ipmi_si didn't start then nothing else
above it will work.
The modules do need to be started in this order (as done in
/etc/init.d/ipmi script):
modprobe ipmi_msghandler
modprobe ipmi_si
modprobe ipmi_devintf
(then the script creates /dev/ipmi0)
Assuming that the modules were built to match this kernel version, when
you get errors loading a module, check in /var/log/messages for the
specific cause.

Also which system do you use? Does it support IPMI? In dmesg, you can
see if any of the IPMI interface is initialized while loading the driver
( ipmi_si) with ipmi_msghandler and ipmi_devintf.

if you are using Ubuntu, try to type sudo before the ipmitool command. I
had the same problem and this was the solution.
