The universities will continue to supply gear to their members but we have to 
constantly replace and repair gear which puts a large strain on our finances. 
As you said, we need the money for other priorities We will buy breeches when 
we can afford them and have done so in the past. However it would take us 
several years before we had nearly enough breeches to give to our members in 
order to satisfy the federation. As for buying gear, alot of fencers will only 
fence whilst they are in college so the prospect of them spending �60+ on gear 
will not be too appealing.   I would suggest that a grant of approx �1000 to 
each club (it can vary on membership numbers and the type of club) would be 
sufficient to allow us to buy enough breeches. Would the federation be able to 
do this? We are talking maybe �5000 - �6000 at most. If this is not possible 
and no other solution is forthcoming then you won't be able to enforce the 
wearing of breeches at the Irish Open (unless you want to turn away most 
fencers)
