Hey no ones disagreeing with the breeches in epee rule- thats common sense.
But hey, why stop at the Open if its a safety issue! Why not make it mandatory
for Schull and DIT Novice Cups then? There's just the same danger (if not more)
of a weapon breaking there. Oh wait.... i know why thats not enforced at those,
silly me... BECAUSE NO BEGINNER WOULD COMPETE OTHERWISE!! THE NOVICE CUPS
WOULD DIE. Blah blah blah, breeches only cost X, plastron only costs X. Yeah
well maybe. But X for a student 6 weeks fencing, can be spent on more
worthwhile things. They don't wanna buy it then what? Bang, they ain't comin
back, no one enters, no new fencers. No offence to anyone here but this is a
relatively expensive sport. Not everyone can afford to buy this stuff.
Football.... boots... 90? Shorts, t shirt, ball, shin guards.. 25- 30?
Fencing.... mask, plastron, breeches, weapon, glove, (maybe) bag, jacket, lame,
bodywire? Anyone wanna guess a figure? More or less then football? Eh?
