Thanks guys. This should be a good tactical building block to build stuff on
top of HBase, I'm sure there are more of these coming down the pipe soon.
Lemme see how straightforward the backport is. No problem from my side to have
it in 0.98.11.
I'll get a precommit run in first anyway.
