Jonathan Hsieh commented on HBASE-8497:
---------------------------------------

Would it make sense to warn on writing a trailer that is larger than the limit
and fail fast when trying to read it if it too big with a warning saying how
big it supposedly was and a pointer to bumping the value larger if it is legit?

> Protobuf WAL also needs a trailer

> New Protobuf WAL has a header, but we will probably need a trailer as well,
> reserved for later usage.
> Right now, we can we just serialize an empty trailer, but putting more
> metadata there, like range of sequence_id's, region names, table names etc
> might be needed in the future.
