I don't know because I never had to do this in a project.

Everything that is offered for free in iText was written because 
somebody needed it in a project (and spent time and/or money on it). 
Some part of what is offered for free was written for fun.

I should look that up in the PDF Reference, but I don't have any time to

question. Please understand that you're using iText for free and that
