I did follow that guide on the first attempt. And had the same results. I thought I was going to get so lucky when dmesg had all the right stuff. It was not until I had x up and running that I realized the tuner was not functioning properly. I have since reverted the firmware back and still have the same issue.

The above it likely the issue. Gentoo will install the correct firmware by default via the package pvr-firmware. Delete the old firmware in /lib/firmware and re-install pvr-firmware.
