I did the same last night (but i didn't have  a spare hard drive, but
i had a few hours to kill).  I installed windows, all the drivers, and
i tried the wintv2000 application, it was perfect on the first try...
I then installed media portal from
http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/, and after some minor
configuration of channels/cards/etc, it worked flawlessly.  MP looks
nice, and is on its way to becoming a very good application, I will
take pictures of my card, maybe it's because it's an iTVC16 based
chip, not iTVC15.

"ivtv: Found an iTVC16 based chip" is in both of our /var/log/messages.
