What ivtvctl options do you suggest? I did try going through each of the inputs via ivtvctl -p# where # is 0-7 only -p0 and -p1 got me video, but BOTH in b&w. The best audio came from -p1

Both 0 and 1 are svideo and should work equally as well, when working (for what it's worth).

The 2nd line below might be the clue... I loaded cx25840 with no options, simply "modprobe cx25840"

application mixer_applet2 uses obsolete OSS audio interface
cx25840: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted.
cx25840: Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete ones

Nahh, shouldn't be a problem. You shouldn't need any cx25840 params anyway, and the debug below shows it is working properly anyway.

Linux video capture interface: v1.00
ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ====================
ivtv: version 0.2.0 (rc3j) loading
ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.12-1.1390_FC4smp SMP 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0
ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info
ivtv: between the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines when
ivtv: mailing the ivtv-devel mailinglist.
ivtv: Unknown card: vendor/device: 4444/0016, subsystem vendor/device: 0000/8801
ivtv: Defaulting to WinTV PVR 150 card

Does the 0.2.0 package come with cx25840ctl? Just for fun you might try to save this to a file:
CH_1__SOURCE=0x00
CH_2__SOURCE=0x01
PWR_DN_CH1=0x00
PWR_DN_CH2=0x00
PWR_DN_ADC1=0x00
PWR_DN_ADC2=0x00
CH_SEL_ADC2=0x00
INPUT_MODE=0x01
VGA_SEL_CH2=0x00
VGA_SEL_CH3=0x00
CHROMA_IN_SEL=0x01

The pipe that into cx25840ctl to see if you get color:
cx25840ct -s < thatfile

Sound is a bit harder I'm afraid. There have been a lot of changes to the audio core for the cx25840 since 0.2.0. It would be easier if you upgraded to the latest 0.3, and post the dmesg (with no module parameters for anything).
