Dominik, I don't know much about ivtv, but since you are running kernel version 2.6.16+ you should probably upgrade to the .6.2 version of the IVTV drivers. It is designed to run under the 2.6.16 series kernel. Just go to www.ivtvdriver.org and download it, uncompress it and read the readme that comes with it (This is important, because I'm pretty sure that certain things have to be compiled into your kernel for it to work properly). If its installation is anything like .4.5, it will be very simple.
The firmware isn't causing your problem, but you should probably upgrade it to avoid future issues with sound. You can get the new version at ftp://ftp.hauppauge.com/Support/PVR150/Beta/amity24073.prerelease.zip . Just download that file and look for the HcwMakoC.ROM file. Copy this over your v4l-cx25840.fw file and reload ivtv (You can do this with rmmod, but a more simple way would be rebooting your linux box). It may not fix all the sound problems one may have, but it did make a considerable difference for me.
