nice catch, but...
mythic ~ # ls -al /dev/video*

digging more into the problem is seems to be the old DMA issue.  using
cpufreq with an amd64 architecture causes ivtv to freak when the cpu
changes frequencies.  if i compile a kernel without cpufreq drivers it
seems to work without issue.

sucks because now i have to listen to the cpu fan running 100% all the
time, but at least i know why...
