>From my experience, a bootloader can be easily overwritten. Is easy to forget about compiler options when you work with various chips. So you need a programmer at hand. I used a JDM programmer but I wasn't able to program a 18F2550 so I had to buy a Pickit2 (I had to do savings for a while - now my wife punished me and not give me permission to buy a 18f4550).
For Sebastien now. I'm thinking at this: maybe is a good idea to modify the compiler which came with development boards (Jaluino, Pinguino, FreeJALduino) so it will always compile outside of bootloader area. The guys which produce PICAXE have such IDE, it will always use only the space used for users programs. This way you will have no returned boards because of this.
