For myself, as the lone alpha-linux porter, is that the new model is very different
from the non-commercial lic agreement. With that agreement I can attempt to make
the JAVA JDK work & distribute to any and all folks that are interested -
FOR NO CHARGE of course.
The New Open license appears to curtail distribution unless some upfront $$$ is
donated to SUN. Yes, the OPENSOURCE is free, but not the TESTING phase nor the
distribution phase Both are not described to any detail, nor their associated
price tags. It would be nice of them to provide these features to not-for-profit
porters for no-cost, but reading the various articles, my inclanation is that this
is not gonna happen with the open source model.
gat
BTW If i were to do a porting project for commercial'ness i would first get a
licence - hammer out the expectations before any work begins. and not after when u
think u ( as the porter ) have it together just to find that their compatability
tests are skewed in favor of sun architectutes & facilities.
