Title: RE: [JAVA3D] Dark CAVES
Dear Manuel and Bob,

I don't know exactly what your problem is but we are currently using SGI
1.1.3 with our Onyx2 running a Reality Centre and works fine. As I wrote you
few weeks ago now our projectors are in perfect synch and the general
performance is good.
I guess the code required for a CAVE use wouldn't be much different but I
don't know if you need rel. 1.2 for other reason then "building up" the graphic
environment.
Of course having the 1.2 release would be much better since I'd allow use of
more than one pipe (according to Michael Schulman's email of a few weeks
ago...) and we also wrote Sgi asking for a 1.2beta version.
I hope that all this "pressing" will let them understand the importance of a
new realease for the developer community and good luck !!

Best wishes,

Giuseppe

This is bad news for me.  I was just about to search the Java3D archives for the notes on using Java 3D in a CAVE on SGI hardware.  I have an opportunity to use a CAVE and thought I'd be able to use my existing Java 3D programs.......

From this note, it seems to say that the SGI folks(?) need to port Java 3D to their SGI system(?).  This isn't in the Java 3D development team's area to do?

I would certainly like more info on this subject.

Dear all,

A while back I inquired about using Java3D to manage a CAVE with SGI
hardware. The people from SUN were helpful and pointed out the need for
Java3D 1.2 (current version on SGI is 1.1.3).

After some delay, I got a reply from the SGI folks. It was not encouraging.
Basically, Java3D 1.2 does not seem a priority in their TODO list.

Cheers

Manuel
