I will pass the height question to our animator. I don't know all the
ramifications of that. I suspect that it would be fairly easy to allow some
pre-set heights made by using some pre-set leg lengths and trunk sizes, but
I am note sure what the impact to textures and animation would be.
The entire skin, and I mean like the epidermis, will be modeled for each
gender and each race. There will be a range of hues that you can apply to
slightly change your skin color. In addition we plan on supplying a range
of faces. Because of the quality we are attempting to achieve on the face,
they really do need to be painted by an artist (an example of such a face
can be seen in the banner of our website), thus playing Mr. Potato Head is
going to be impossible. However.... we plan to do the following:
Each painted face will have a seperate mask built. This mask will be
painted in special colors corresponding to feature on the face. We can use
this mask dynamically to locate things like lips, eyes, cheeks and hair so
that we can apply color changes. This will also allow us to do special
effects like make eyes glow, or change the pallor of the skin because of
sickness.

Hi Dave,
Some fascinating ideas in there. A couple of (non technical, mostly
gameplay) things came to mind:
Are you supporting variable heights for your avatars?
Can a player customise their face appearance and hair colour?
It may be (too?) easy for people to impersonate others by simply changing
their 'clothing'.
