hm, I can't create a MediaContainer with a .mp3 file, but jmf can handle mpeg layer 3. the sound rendering may be the same, but codecs aren't supported in j3d or did I misss a thing ? how about streaming media - I assume a MediaController loads the complete file/url at when construted.. > My advice is to evaluate your sound > needs and use > the one that best fits. In short I'd love to have the features of both APIs, but there seems no way to use the codecs and the interfaces of JMF within a j3d sound node for spacialized sound :( that's why I asked whether there are any planes for the future.. greetings -Michael Nischt > The other option is the JavaSound API that is now shipped as > part of the JDK. > > Doug Twilleager > Java 3D Team > Sun Microsystems > > Michael Nischt wrote: > >> hi all, >> I want to extend my 3D apps with sound, so I wonder whether I should use >> JMF or Java3D Sound nodes.. >> >> AFAIK Java3D MediaContainer neither support streaming media nor the .mp3 >> format and accordingly to j3d.org F.A.Q.
