This is a little off topic, but I have been using InstallAnywhere for 3
years now (and paid for all the upgrades) and must say that if I could
convince my clients to use WebStart I'd jump at the chance. InstallAnywhere
(the name is misleading, BTW) is OK... but it's expensive, and you still
spend a lot of time futzing with it to get it to do what you want. I did a
prototype deployment with WebStart which only took about 30 minutes, 20 of
which were reading the tool docs to figure out how to create a keystore and
sign the jar. :^P

The version checking and extension dependency checking are worth their
weight in gold, making WebStart a winner in my mind.

The only problem I see with WebStart is that it hasn't gained a critical
mass of users yet, and Sun's position on deployment is unclear and without
strategy (especially with the introduction of JSR 38, "Application
Installation API Specification"). The more people using WebStart the
better.....
