About Java3D x JRE Plug-In.
If we install a new release of JRE plug-in, we have our Java3D install
"missing" ,
since Java3D is installed in another sub-folder of another JRE...
Ex.:

day 1)
JRE 1.3.0 + Java3D(any version) Status = active
Java3D runs fine

day 2)
JRE 1.3.0 + Java3D (any) Status = disabled
JRE 1.3.1_02 Status = active
Java3D not runs

We can active one or other through Control Panel anyway.
I think this new JRE´s 1.3.1+ are a big improvement over the old ones, since
it reads the <APPLET> tag.
We just need a extra option , maybe a extra folder, to put Java3D or another
"Java extensions", and they can be accessed for all JRE.
This way, Java3D will be a extra and indepedent plug-in, not a problem
child (i.e., extra install dependent ).

Something like this

JavaSoft
           |
           |-Extensions
           | |-Java3D
           | |-JavaSpeech(?)
           | |-JavaMediaFrameWork(?)
           | -JRE
                    |-1.3.1_02
                    |-1.4.0
                    |-1.4.01...
