There are two issues here. The first is making Java 3D source
available through SCSL, which is how all Java API's make their
source code available. This is not political. The Java 3D team
has decided to not make source code available through SCSL at this
time.

The second issue is how do the people who are going to help with
Java 3D 1.4 implementation work get access to the source code. This
is a new process for us, so we are working on it as we go. But, I
imagine that as we identify people who will do work, we will have
some license agreement that will make access possible. This will be
a very tightly managed process. The people doing implementation
work will have a very tight relationship with the Java 3D team. We
have to do it this way to guarantee a quality design and integration
with the overall architecture of Java 3D.

Doug.
