Dear All, The StereoGraphics Web site (http://www.stereographics.com/) is a great resource for information about stereo 3D.
On their online support materials page (http://www.stereographics.com/support/body_support.html) there are several diagnostic tools for testing the stereo capabilities of your graphics card with OpenGL on Win 9x. The "diagnose" tool works with all versions of Windows, not just NT. The tools come with source code, which shows how the stereo API of OpenGL can be used. The advantage of using these tools is that they allow you to check your display card independent of Java 3D. These tools are explained in the testkit.doc Word document available from http://www.stereographics.com/support/developers/ --- Another useful page is the "Graphics Card Compatibility" page (http://www.stereographics.com/support/boards/brd-chrt.htm). It's aimed at StereoGraphics products, but is also useful for checking stereo support on cards. --- Stereo is available via OpenGL if the card supports quad-buffering (sometimes referred to as multi-buffering). A good way to check peoples' experiences with quad-buffering on a given card is to search newsgroups with strings such as: nvidia tnt2 stereo quad-buffering opengl I use http://groups.google.com for my searches. There are newsgroups aimed at particular display cards below alt.comp.periphs.videocards.* - Andrew ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Andrew Davison E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dept. of Computer Engineering Fax: +66 74 212895 (then 201 after office hrs) Prince of Songkla University Tel: +66 74 211030 x2240 (then x316) Hat Yai, Songkhla 90112, Thailand or: +66 74 212895 x316 http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
