Here is a snippet that creates a Sphere rather than using a model:
The reason I used a cube was at the time I couldn't get the sphere to look right, my texture always ended up stretched around the middle of the sphere, and squashed at the top and bottom, the cube worked, so I stuck with it :), does the code you supplied wrap the texture inside evenly, or is it squashed and stretched?
