Perhaps this is why JOGL could be a more sound idea - one that has both the
low level API for the game developers yet can have a scenegraph built on top
for more visualisation type applications, and one with a more relaxed
licensing agreement.  Someone else has suggested that Java3D may indeed one
day be built on JOGL, this seems to be an excellent arrangement in my eyes.

JOGL also appears to be backed by Sun.  Not directally created by Sun, but
supported by them.  This hybrid development environment appeals to me as it
means that yes, a major player is pushing for it, but it also means the
little guy can have more input and if Sun withdrew support, development could
easily continue from where they left off.
