Kirk: Please, consider what you are saying before you send notes like
this.

If nobody ever aired their grievances (in a reasonably calm manner),
then the posse listeners would consist of naught but Posse fanboys, in
it just for the crew, and in general such audiences never grow; they
only shrink.

The fact that William felt the need to post this is a good indicator
that he in fact cares quite a bit about the posse and the content they
talk about.

Full disclosure: I might be a little bit biased in that even I'm
getting a bit tired of the endless iPhone conversations, especially
because its become a parrot at this point: Every time it gets brought
up, A) Joe will beat the usability drum, and B) Carl and Tor will
immediately agree. Then, C) Dick essentially agrees with a little less
enthusiasm and gets drowned out by vocal fanboyism for 10 minutes
which Dick eventually shuts down forcibly. I get why; as programmers
who have long figured out that usability trumps just about every other
concern, -believe you me- I get how frustrating it can be to beat some
sense into others, but, seriously, guys, we're right there with you.

I get it, though - its normal and actually great for our industry if
companies that treat their employees so well that they feel the need
to defend them even if they don't work there anymore. That and the
apple employee embargo on talking about apple, and I'd be doing the
same thing, most likely.

In closing, I've tried to convey the following:

The posse is the posse and they can do whatever they want. Any
complaints voiced here or elsewhere should be considered constructive
criticism. This missive exists solely for -your- benefit; if you want
to take it into account, that's great. If you are happier harping on
about apple products, that's okay too. I'll keep listening either way,
really. It's just be happier if the apple stuff got toned down just a
smidge - preferably less rehash and more real discussion and facts/
news.

NB: Nigel, Apple tends to get a free pass partly because the IT
community is very hive minded, so a few apple apologists is all it
takes, especially considering that about half of the movers and
shakers in that industry own macs and thank apple almost every day for
making their life more productive. It's just hard to complain about a
company that you pretty much rely on for your daily life. Of course,
that same argument explains why you should in fact complain, loudly
and vocally, if apple screws over something you hold dear and should
NOT give them a free pass. I'm afraid that, if apple ever gets to
their 25% market share, that they gather critical mass and become the
microsoft of the industry inside a span of a year or 3. I strongly
feel that Apple would out-microsoft microsoft if given the chance, so
we should teach them that the IT community can be a royal pain in your
behind instead of a priceless pool of evangelists.
