TV/Radio/Magazine/Media companies are a *very* different thing, for a start
you've got it all back to front

Media companies are in the business of selling audiences to advertisers,
period.
If they can get away with squeezing a subscription from you as well then
it's pure gravy.
Having a distinct lack of serious competition helps them in this endeavour.

Publishers really shouldn't be lumped in with this bunch; they tend to be
smaller, face more competition, expose themselves to higher risks, and give
a greater proportion of revenue goes to content creators.
