Hi Reiner, true, I have oversimplified the situation and yes, I knew I would probably start a flame war.
But I know this group and I know we can still debate the situation like adults. To clarify some points: "I also don't agree with the implication (deliberate or not) that Apple are being victimised for betraying ideals which have been projected on to them." I absolutely think that people are giving Apple a harder time than they would other companies because these people have projected ideals on to them. And the reason they have done this is because they want those shiny, shiny products. So thats my point - Apple is what Apple does and its really no different than most companies (it wants to make money by cornering a market and locking in users). A lot of you guys (not everyone, just the people really, really horrified at Apple's hypocrisy) just can't face that and need to vent rather than just stop buying the products. I should make it clear I am not defending Apple, to me its just another company making money. I'm having a go at the 'outraged' developers who feel betrayed. In case you are wondering, I own an iPhone, iPods and a MacBook. But I like to think I have them because they are best-in-class for what I needed at the time. Also, I didn't say Sun didn't want money, just that it came up with a daft way of making it and it didn't work out.
