the reason this was brought up in the podcast is Dick was wondering
why Apple/Google aren't courting Java devs.

My guess is 1) they don't need to, both are getting tons of devs  2)
apple sees java as a bunch of enterprise devs - which it considers
uninteresting for the most part.
