Chris,
Consider this:
For a blind user, one of the first thing that we load into memorey is Jaws
so, given that, it's not Jaws that is stealing memorey, it's all of the 
other applications that we use.
I have found that Jaws performs much better when a machine is running lean 
right from the startup.

Hi, I should elaborate on my previous post. On my Vista laptop I'm
running JAWS 9, and on the old XP laptop, which is now my friend's, it's
running JAWS 8, both of which doesn't appear to cause memory issues.
