My techie friends tell me that JAWS is a memory hog. Whenever you buy a new computer, get twice the memory that is offered. If you have a computer, buy more memory and install it.

I noticed that Skype and JAWS both come up at about the same time. JAWS is a wonderful program, but IMHO is unfortunately a real resource hog, particularly if one is using the Eloquence synthesizer. My solution was to take Skype out of the startup sequence, then start it manually afterward. Since doing that, JAWS has had no problems loading/starting. Also, AVG and JAWS seem to slug it out once in awhile, with JAWS usually ending up the loser. Am I wrong in describing JAWS as a "resource hog?" Does anyone have actual stats on how much (i.e. what percent of) system resources JAWS requires? Is there anything that can be done to tweak the memory manager in Windows XP to accomodate JAWS requirements? Thanks.
