A registry backup doesnt do any good if the PC wont boot. It is not
worth the risk as there is no real performance gain unless you do some
really crazy installing and uninstalling of hundreds of programs or
download some really bad ones...

Just make a registry backup. I think Ccleaner can do this for you. Otherwise,
if you can see which registry entries are removed, you will probably be able to
figure out what they are/what they do, roughly (it's not always easy, but I
think I understand it reasonably well). It's possible that some changes you
made to your system will be revoked once you use Ccleaner. That's why it's good
to have a backup, and to keep a log of some sort of the changes Ccleaner makes.
I haven't used this programme in years, but it did help my XP machine run
faster from time to time.

I haven't used something like CCleaner before. Are there dangers for beginners
to watch out for?

All those entries in the registry were simply delete it. If you chose to have a
back up, then your registry file will be there, with all the entries still
intact. However, that is strictly for back up in case something dreadful
happens. You don’t need to restart your PC. Simply close the cleaner and MoveOn.

Evening all.
Using CCleaner with JAWS 17 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, after I go through
all of the items I want cleaned, where do all of the nasties go, and do I need
to restart my pc? Thanks.
