True that, but I have never broken my registry to the point where my PC won't 
boot. Not saying it can't be done, but I don't think one need be scared of 
making registry changes. I'd rate my technical/OS knowledge as middling (though 
it's getting better) and I've made a number of manual changes to the registry 
in XP, 98 and now in Windows 10, and never experienced any terrible calamities. 
The worst thing, indeed, has been using a registry cleaner of some kind that 
revokes a change that I myself made to my system.

But ok, I'll concede that you shouldn't really play with it unless you have 
some kind of nkling of what you are about. *grin*

A registry backup doesnt do any good if the PC wont boot. It is not worth the 
risk as there is no real performance gain unless you do some really crazy 
installing and uninstalling of hundreds of programs or download some really bad 
ones...
