Hello Mike,

The steps below are for adding the "save all" command to the file menu in Word 2003. I am not sure about Word 2002, but I think it is very similar.

1. Open the tools menu using Alt-T.
2. Use up arrow and press enter on the "Customize" choice.
3. Focus should be in the Commands tab, but if not then switch to the "commands" page tab of the dialog box.
4. use the tab key to move to categories. Select the "file" choice.
5. use tab key to the "arrange commands" button and press spacebar to bring up the dialog box. 6. Use tab key to move to a group of radio buttons for choosing whether the command will be on the toolbar or menu bar. Choose the menu bar.
7. Use tab key to move to the menu Bar combo box and choose file.
8. Use tab key to the "add" button and press spacebar.
9. Choose "file" in the categories list.
10. Use tab key to move to the commands list box and use down arrow until you find the "save all" choice.
11. Use tab key to move to the OK button and press spacebar.
12. Use tab key to controls list and find the "save all" button.
13. Use tab key to move to the "move up" or "move down" buttons. You can press the "move down" button a few times and then use shift-tab to move back to the controls list to find the new location of the "save all" menu choice. You might decide to use the "move down" button until the choice is right after the other save choices in the menu. 14. use tab key to the "save in" combo box and choose normal.dot or use down arrow to choose to save in just the active document. You will probably want to choose the "normal.dot" choice or you will have to go through the same process every time you have a document that you want to save the settings changes in. 15. use tab key to move to either the "OK" button or the "close" button and press spacebar.

After doing the above steps you should be able to set the zoom and type of view you want and then use the "save all" choice in the file menu to have Word retain those settings.

Take care.

Hi Brian,

Would you please explain to me in steps on how to customize the Tool Bar.
This is something I have never fooled with and really don't want to cause
any more problems than I already might have. I did go into the Word Tools
menu, then into customize just to check it out but, to be quiet honest don't want to screw aroun with something that I'm totally unfamiliar with. I have
screwed up my computers too many times by playing around with the unknown.
I greatly appreciate the time you and everybody else are taking to help me
and anyone else who might come across this problem. Thank you very much.
Take care.

Hello Mike,

The way that I have been able to have settings retained is to use the "save
all" command. You might try it if you want the normal template to use
specific settings all the time. In Word 2007, I went into the Word options
dialog and opened the custom tab. I found the option under "all commands"
and added it to the quick access toolbar. I think in earlier versions you
could do the same under the tools menu and the customize choice. I changed
between print view, web view and outline view to test it in Word 2007, and
when I reopened the documents or even a blank document, the settings were
retained. I am not at a system right now with an earlier version of Word
installed, but you might check in the file menu to see if there is a "save
all" choice before going into the customize settings.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Why are document settings changing?

   Hi All,

Has anybody else run into this problem? I like to have my settings for my
documents set in print view and the zoom set at 75%. After a few days I
will go back to particular documents in My Documents, open a document, go
to
the view menu and the settings are changed to normal view and the zoom
will
be at 100 or 200%. I will make the corrections and save them then, I can
go
back to the same documents a few days later and the settings have changed.
Can anybody tell me why this is happening or what is making this happen?
I
have been told that this is not a Jaws problem by Freedom Scientific's
tech
support and as you all know the zoom setting effects the way Jaws reads.
I
am running Xp SP3/Office 2002 home, Jaws 8, 9, & 10 latest. All advice
and
information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
